Clinical overview

The BJ3401 Smart Saw represents a purpose-built solution for cranio-maxillofacial surgeons requiring precise, controlled bone cutting in anatomically sensitive regions. Operating at 15,000 cycles per minute with a consistent 4.8V power supply, the system delivers reliable performance across a range of neurosurgical and reconstructive procedures including craniotomy, orbital reconstruction, and maxillofacial osteotomy. The reciprocating saw mechanism provides superior control compared to rotary systems when working near critical neurovascular structures.

Engineered with surgical workflow efficiency in mind, the handpiece accepts standard CMF saw blades and maintains consistent cutting performance throughout extended procedures. The 4.8V battery system ensures adequate power output (≥20W) while maintaining a balanced, ergonomic profile that reduces surgeon fatigue during complex cases. The autoclavable handpiece design (up to 135°C standard, 155°C for improved models) supports efficient instrument reprocessing protocols in busy surgical departments.

Important usage and maintenance notes

Category Critical information
Sterilisation temperature Maximum sterilisation temperature is 135°C for standard models (155°C for improved models). Exceeding this temperature will damage the motor assembly.
Blade capacity Standard handpiece accommodates saw blades up to 6mm. Acetabulum reaming attachments operate at approximately 300 RPM with high torque. Cannulated attachments for use with nails or K-wires operate at approximately 600 RPM.
Battery management Battery must be removed from handpiece after each surgical procedure. Leaving the battery installed causes gradual automatic discharge that significantly reduces battery service life.
Battery sterilisation Battery is NOT autoclavable and must never be subjected to sterilisation processes.
Blade cleaning Saw blades must be cleaned immediately after surgery using a purger to prevent blood and tissue from adhering to the blade surface. Blades must be thoroughly dried before sterilisation.
Handpiece drying The battery compartment in the handpiece must be completely dry after sterilisation. No water should remain in this area before battery reinstallation.
Blade material and usage Saw blades are manufactured from medical-grade stainless steel with controlled flexibility to prevent breakage. Due to the material properties and edge geometry, blades are subject to wear. Single-use per surgical procedure is recommended to maintain optimal cutting performance.
